Reiki

What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a gentle, non-invasive complementary therapy that originated in Japan in the early 1900s. The word itself comes from two Japanese words:

  • Rei – meaning universal, spiritual or life wisdom
  • Ki – meaning life force energy (similar to the concept of Qi in Chinese medicine or Prana in yoga)

Reiki is based on the idea that we all possess a natural life energy that supports our physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. When we are stressed, exhausted, grieving, overwhelmed or unwell, this energy can feel depleted or out of balance.

A Reiki treatment aims to support relaxation and encourage the body’s natural ability to rest, heal and restore itself.

What happens during a Reiki treatment?

During a Reiki session, you remain fully clothed and lie comfortably on a treatment couch, supported by cushions, blankets and gentle surroundings.

The practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above different areas of the body. There is no massage or manipulation involved.

Most people experience Reiki as deeply relaxing and may notice:

🌿 A feeling of warmth or gentle tingling
🌿 A sense of heaviness or lightness
🌿 Deep relaxation or sleepiness
🌿 Emotional release or a sense of calm
🌿 Mental clarity and stillness

Everyone’s experience is different, and there is no right or wrong way to experience Reiki.

What are the benefits of Reiki?

Many people seek Reiki to support:

✨ Stress and anxiety management
✨ Relaxation and better sleep
✨ Emotional wellbeing and resilience
✨ Recovery from periods of burnout or exhaustion
✨ Support during times of grief, change or uncertainty
✨ A greater sense of balance and connection with themselves

While Reiki is not a replacement for medical treatment, many people find it a helpful complementary therapy alongside conventional healthcare.

Is Reiki a religion?

No. Reiki is not a religion and does not require any particular spiritual belief or faith system. People of all beliefs and backgrounds receive Reiki.

At its heart, Reiki is simply a gentle practice that encourages rest, relaxation and wellbeing.

What does Reiki feel like afterwards?

Many clients leave feeling:

💚 Calm and peaceful
💚 Grounded and centred
💚 Lighter emotionally
💚 Deeply rested
💚 More connected to themselves

Some people feel energised, while others feel the need to rest and sleep more deeply following a treatment.
